Submitted by thispleasestormod: I get way too excited when I find out I’m not the only person who loves something that I thought I was alone in.

See also: “for fictional characters you like”.
Urgh, I see this way too much. It’s like it never occurs to people that liking an evil character does not automatically mean you give them leather pants or approve of everything they do, or that shipping a pairing with unhealthy dynamics does not necessarily mean that you think of it as TWU WUB or would approve of that kind of thing in real life.
Granted, the rabid fans who are guilty of the above don’t exactly help matters, but not all fans of a given character/pairing are the same; I don’t think it’s right to jump to conclusions just based on the fact that a fan likes a certain character/pairing full stop, without at least trying to see if there’s actually any rabid/stupid/problematic behaviour in why or how they like it.
shipping does not “taint” a fandom
shipping straight or gay pairings doesn’t taint a fandom, either
what really taints a fandom are narrow-minded and hostile idiots
thank you
Wake up in the morning feelin like
god I love fictional characters
Something that bothers me in fandom…
When people assume the creators added an m/m pair or an f/f pair solely for fanservice. (This goes mostly for anime fandom because it’s the one I’m in more.)
Like…I won’t say that some of these pairings are absolutely free of fanservice, but…to assume the pairings are there strictly for that and not that the creators may have just felt like putting the pair in…it almost seems vaguely homophobic, but I’m not so sure.
Maybe it’s just people being cynical.
my tumblr is not an accurate portrayal of my fangirling
i am actually much, much, much worse than you know

THE STAGES OF FANDOM
- Stage 1 - Discovery: You've finally found other people who like the same thing as you do. It's fucking great. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
- Stage 2 - Involvement: You read up about theories and headcanons. Join the community. Start getting excited about new episodes because OH MY GOD NEW THEORIES AND GIFS.
- Stage 3 - Obsession: You ship things like burning. Fanfic has replaced actual books. You know every actors' name, date of birth and marital status. You follow all the actors' twitter accounts. You have seen every episode several times. You stay up until ungodly hours to watch new episodes. You spend days downloading HD Logoless Screencaps. This is the best stage ever because everything is RAINBOWS and BEAUTIFUL.
- Stage 4 - Realisation: There are some people in the fandom who are idiots. They are horrible about your ship. They talk shit about your favourite characters. People write hate and start arguments. This ruins the new episodes for you and you can't enjoy it anymore. The new episodes aren't as entertaining as they used to be. You're realising that the show is going to the shitter. People accuse you of not being a 'true fan' and the fandom is divided.
- Stage 5 - Acceptance: You find a nice, quiet corner of the fandom to retire to. Sure, you keep up to date with the latest episodes on occasion. You still reblog gifs and screencaps, but you prefer the 'golden seasons' when you enjoyed the show and the fandom. You slowly start to migrate to other shows, but your first fandom still holds a special place in your fangirl/boy heart.
“i can’t believe this person is wasting their talent on a fanwork of a series i don’t like!!”
Addressing some issues with the fandom
Normally I reserve this blog for news posts, wiki news, projects and the like as that was the intention of this blog. But I feel like this is an important issue that needs to be addressed and that all fans need to read this.
When the Christmas event started in December, Himaruya had fallen ill though this was unknown to us. When early January came around many people in the fandom were on the breaking point of insanity as he hadn’t updated the event in quite some time. We wouldn’t hear from him again until mid-January when he announced to us that he was ill when the event started and had to take a brief hiatus to get better when it became too much for him. He did resume the event for a bit but quickly disappeared again which brings us to today.
Himaruya is a busy guy. This is no secret. However unlike previous years, this year is showing up to be the busiest so far and the fandom appears to have forgotten this. I don’t think this was entirely intentional on our part as we’ve grown used to Himaruya’s frequent updates over the years. But nevertheless, we need to step back and look at the big picture. Lets look at Himaruya’s schedule since the start of the year:
- Monthly Comic Briz strips.
- Chibisan Date Volume 2. (Released February 24th)
- ArteStella Piccollo (That is if there’s new content; to be released March 28th)
- Germany’s travel book (To be released March 28th)
- Mochi art book (?) (I have to do a double check on this one. I think there’s supposed to be a mochi book coming out with his artwork in it; not 100% sure on the release date either)
- 50 question interviews for Comic Spica.
- Upcoming Volume 5. (Date TBA)
This is just a small list of what we know of so far. There may or may not be more that we don’t know about and it hasn’t been announced yet. Also lets not forget that Himaruya has a PERSONAL life as well. He has a family, friends and day-to-day chores and stuff to do just like you and me. He is NOT a machine to serve us with Hetalia goodies 24/7. He is a human being with a life. He owes us absolutely nothing and every single Hetalia fan needs to understand and remember this fact. Yes, we miss him lots. I’m not sure which Hetalia fan doesn’t! But we need to remember that Himaruya is just like you and me. We are very lucky and fortunate that we have a creator that loves and listens to the fanbase. Not all fandoms have this luxury. So please, before you make any sort of rant as to why he hasn’t updated the Christmas event or why he hasn’t updated his blog in months, take a deep breath, a step back and think:
”Is he busy?”
”Does he have deadlines that he has to meet right now?”
”Is he sick and needs to take some time off to recover?”
”Is there something going on in his personal life that he needs to tend to?”
These are just a few but many more can be listed. The world is not ending guys. Don’t be jumping to conclusions or starting rumours. If he’s not updating, it’s most likely due to his schedule or he’s ill. End of story.
Now that’s out of the way, let me address the other fandom issue.
You guys need to learn how to read. That post about season 4 in the works? That should not be flying around. Season 4 was two years ago. It’s the second season of World Series. I don’t understand why this is making its rounds around Tumblr. I don’t know if this was some sort of joke or mistake on someone’s part but regardless it shouldn’t be happening; especially when we have the wiki to help you. And I’m not talking about the shit wiki at Wikia. That was our former host and it’s been left to die. Don’t use it. It’s filled with so much spam, vandalism and trolls I don’t understand why ANYONE is still using it as a source for info. But that’s a topic for another night.
Fandom, I love you to death. You’ve done lots of great things for me and I feel proud to be a part of it. But sometimes you need to take a breather, relax and open your eyes once in a while. Let Himaruya finish what he needs to do. He’ll come back when his schedule and workload lightens a bit. We’ll be just fine without him. In the meantime, lets focus on what we have and enjoy it to the fullest. There’s lots of great things about the series and the fandom and it needs to be brought into the light! However there is such a thing as praising too much. We are not the greatest fandom out there. In my opinion, there is no such thing as “the greatest fandom”. There are bad apples in all fandoms. Just remember to keep things at a healthy level and all will be good. Lets keep wishing Himaruya all the best everyone!
Thank you so much for this.
The part concerning Himaruya I can understand. He hasn’t posted a single message on his blog in months, so of course people will either miss him or begin to worry for his well being, but some people take their feelings a little too far. (Starting rumors about his health, or something else “happened” to him to make him “not okay”) Plus he doesn’t owe us a dang message, he’s hard at work and doesn’t owe anybody anything @.@ (Well, ‘cept for the publishers or editors or whoever else- dude has deadlines to meet afterall)
as for the news thing….yeah, idk where everyone has been @_@ Did people just forget that we even had a season 4? I guess that’s what happened but idk why or how it happens.
Just stick to the good wiki, guys :’3
Just want to add that he also does monthly Chibisan Date chapters along with monthly Hetalia ones. He is pretty busy.
I miss Himaruya’s frequent blog updates too, but yeah, it should be remembered that he’s very busy at the moment. Or may even be dealing with stuff in his own personal life.
In most cases when people say that a character is weak, they’re just too lazy to take a good look beneath the surface. Their perception of what constitutes a strong character is often times quite shallow.
