“I just don’t think the world should see people who aren’t thin”

waltdisneyconfessions:

I don’t want there to be a fat disney princess. I just don’t think that body type would work very well with the beautiful “Disney princess style.” She just wouldn’t be as beautiful.

Are you serious?  Come fight me.  COME FIGHT ME.  I’m at least glad that waltdisneyconfessions tagged this with body shaming and sizism.    How can someone write “She just wouldn’t be as beautiful” and not be hit in the face with the force of their own what-the-fuck?

A) you’re not being cute here, Anon confessor.  Everyone knows you’re saying “The Disney Princess Style” is “princesses who are too thin to be real people.”   And everyone also knows you’re saying that the first point of a princess is to fit a standard of beauty, rather than to be a strong role model, a great female lead character, or anything else that would teach kids more than “we value people most for how close they come to our cultural concept of what beautiful is, rather than for their thoughts, integrity, wit, intelligents, creativity, et cetera.”

You can be beautiful and fat/overweight/chubby/whatever.

B) therefore you disappoint me.

“I wish people would stop being so concerned with the race, sexuality, weight, or other concerns of a princess. What should matter is their personality, their actions, and the message they convey.”

But if that’s all that matters then why aren’t more Disney princesses women of colour? Why aren’t they queer? Why are they all thin? If personality the only important thing then there’d be more diversity.
(I need sleep so this might not make total sense, my bad.)

The thing about Disney princesses is that little girls idolize these princesses. They are the most looked up to. I wanted to be Cinderella or Belle and my best friend wanted to be Jasmine. We thought Marilyn Monroe and Snow white were the most beautiful though we both agreed the disney movie was boring. However we both wished we could be as beautiful though we knew we couldn’t be. I was fat and she was hispanic and according to disney that is not what princesses were. At 7 we knew this. I didn’t pick up on any messages other then whole “a prince will save you” thing. I knew they were pretty and I wasn’t. If there had been a fat princess would she have been my favorite? Most likely not. Beauty and the Beast ftw! However at 7 years it would’ve made me feel like I could’ve been a princess.
A lot of women say this kind’ve thing shouldn’t matter but when your little there isn’t reasoning. As annoying as I find disney movies now denying their importance on  lots of young girls is foolish. Little girls deserve to look out into the world and see positive role models who faced the same struggles as they did.
