Introducing Cosplayer of the Week: Torii

1. How long have you been cosplaying for?

I have been cosplaying for about Four years now. It almost feels like it has been a lot shorter than that

2. What is your favourite cosplay?

Its hard to choose my favorite, I mean I love all of the costumes I have done haha

3. How did you get into the cosplaying gig?

It started when me and a friend stumbled upon cosplay pictures on the internet when we were 12. we both thought it looked cool and a lot of fun. We decided when we got older we would try it out. I ended up teaching myself how to sew so I can take my hand at cosplaying and here I am now!

4. What are some of your best memories cosplaying?

I think when I started making more friends who were into the same things I was. Each friend has a fond memory and I am so glad I got to meet all of them.

5. Which is your most used cosplay?

Most used is probably Homura from Madoka magica, Sakura from Street Fighter, and Nami from One Piece. I use them about the same, if I don’t bring one with me to a convention its another haha

6. Which character would you like to cosplay in the future and why?

I really want to cosplay Casca from Berserk. She is a really inspirational character and she is also one of my favorite female characters from an Manga series. Only thing stoping me is my ability to make armor, but I will figure a way out

7. Have you ever participated in any cosplaying events, such as cosplay chess, or playacting, etc, and if so how was it, and would you partake in it again?

I have worked with Funimation and ACP as a cosplayer at their booth. it was A LOT of fun to act and pose in character while at the booth. Other than that I havnt really tried anything else. I want to try cosplay chess … but I don’t really know anything about chess haha.

8. Any advice to others trying to cosplay?

If you don’t have the same hair color? don’t worry you can get a wig. Your eyes too sensitive for contacts? don’t wear them. Don’t know how to sew? You can buy a costume online there is no problem with that! I know around me I couldn’t get colored wigs but there always places on ebay that sells the colored wigs. and be careful with your eyes go see a doctor first before buying contacts, but you don’t HAVE to buy contacts its perfectly fine to go without them. Also dont ever be afraid to ask questions. If you see a cosplayer with a wig or a prop or costume you like don’t be afraid to ask if they made it and how or where they got it from.

9. What do you do when you’re not cosplaying.

Hmmmm mainly sewing, working, working out and going to school haha. nothing too interesting.

10. Any tips or advice you would specifically like to give to fellow black cosplayers.

Don’t worry about others thing about your skin tone or height for a character! I know how it feels to be in that situation and it isn’t fun. I use to be scared about cosplaying non tan characters when I first started cosplaying but its not about skin tone, its about your love for the series and what you do. You should feel comfortable in the skin you are in and don’t EVER let that stop you from doing something. If you want to cosplay something? cosplay it if that’s what you really want.

Now here’s a cosplayer who has lost control of his life. I saw on the /cgl/ thread that this dude was a /co/mrade who hastily threw this together and I thought it was fuckin’ great. This was his first con and the cosplay was brilliant. Poor Stu.

first off, this is being relegated to a winter-only cosplay.
wearing a leather jacket in the summer was not a good idea;;
and i'm sure my shion would rather not wear a coat in summer.
